What is a Web App?

A Web App is a software system which manages data which could include inventory, client records, administration functions etc. The web app can be used as a backend system or is sometimes used to display data on a website or phone app.

The Spinoff Digital team has built a number of web apps including:

  • CRMs
  • Inventory management
  • Order management
  • Administration management
  • Workforce timesheet and leave management
  • XML data feeds

These projects have been from the very simple through to complex builds that have been released in stages over several years as they have been developed and improved.

So why develop your own web app?

Square pegs do not go into round holes and one size just does not fit all as many companies discover when they purchase off the shelf software to run their business.

No doubt off the shelf software can at times suit a company’s needs but there are too many stories of systems being bought where:

  • The modification of the system has been expensive
  • Not completely effective as some aspects of the system just could not be changed and where large sections of the system, which the company had paid for, were just never used.
  • Ongoing licenses charges for enterprise system use is also often cost prohibitive.

Let’s face it, your company is unique so the answer to your systems problem is also unique.

The Spinoff Digital team can help with the solution so why not give us a call on 1300 85 77 45 or click here and complete the form on the connect page and we will be in touch.

But do I really need an app for my business?

To app or not to app, that is the question. Before you decide to have an app created you need to decide what its purpose is. Although there can be replicated information on both your app and your website, the app should not be simply a copy of your website.

Once you have a good reason to create an app there are a lot of upsides for your business. For example, you can develop apps for specific aspects of your business, as an addition to your website or highlighting parts of your business

So what are some of the reasons why I should have an app?

  • More permanent client visibility. If a client goes to your website on their phone they are visiting the site using the phone’s browser (Safari, Chrome etc.) just as you visit a site on your computer. Once you have opened the site you can easily close it down and it is no longer on your phone, however, if an app is downloaded onto a phone it sits on the phone screen even when the user navigates away and only disappears when the user deletes the app which is a lot less likely.
  • There is a function you want repeat customers to have ready access to. For example, you might run an equipment hire business and your customers are mostly builders out in the field who are wanting to order equipment on an as needs basis. If so they can pull their phone out, hit the app icon and place their order with ease it has to be good for your business.
  • Cut through the noise. How do you communicate with your clients at the moment? Probably via enewsletter, email, maybe a Facebook page but all of these are competing with others using the same channel. If you use your app for communication, especially using push notifications, it is your dedicated communication channel directly to your clients.
  • Your business has a use for location services. An app is ideal for serving up services to customers where location is important. Think of Uber or food ordering apps. Your phone knows where you are, the app knows where you are and can connect you to the best service for your location and keep you informed of the progress of your order.

How do I cater for the different phone platforms without spending a fortune?

But then of course there is the vexed question, do you build an iOS app (Apple) or an Android app or even a Windows app or perhaps all three? Mmmmm, sounds expensive and it can be.

Well at Spinoff Digital we have a solution to that problem so why not give us a call on 1300 85 77 45 or click here and complete the form and we will get back to you.

Data Visualisation & Predictive Analysis

The Spinoff Digital team has experience in developing customised data visualisation dashboards for a variety of industries. For more information please call us on 1300 85 77 45 or click here and complete the form and we will get back to you.

What is Data Visualisation?

Data visualisation involves the creation and study of the visual representation of data. To communicate information clearly and efficiently, data visualization uses statistical graphics, plots, information graphics and other tools.

The advantages of using data visualisation software over other forms of data presentation include:

  • Patterns and trends can be more easily seen which might be lost in a text based format.
  • The ability to compare and contrast data is greatly improved.
  • The interactive graphs allow different data sets to be viewed looking at historic and current data.
  • Data sets can be viewed from a macro level down to a micro level.
  • Data views can be protected behind a tiered set of login credentials allowing read access across an organisation from CEO to upper management to department through to an individual level.

What is Predictive Analysis?

Predictive analysis software runs algorithms to make predictions based on an organisation’s data. Predictive analysis is based on dimensions or variables which influence an organisation so when there is a change to a dimension there is a corresponding change to the prediction.

Predictions can be based on an organisation’s data while also pulling in external data which might affect an organisation’s position.

‘What if?’ predictions can be made by manipulating data to look at a range of hypotheticals. This greatly assists in the forward planning process.

Where does the data come from?

The data can come from a variety of sources including: manual input, imported from an existing data source within the organisation or imported from an external data source.

Predictive Analysis

What organisations can benefit from data visualisation and predicative analysis?

Data visualisation and predictive analysis can be applied to any organisation in any industry sector and in any market such as:

  • Sales monitoring – lead source, conversions, targets, actuals.
  • Human Resources – leave monitoring, training records, staff skill sets, staff retention.
  • Inventory management – sales trends, stock levels, expiration dates.
  • Vehicle fleet performance and maintenance.
  • Minesite – production targets, production actuals, location performance, seasonal variance.

Yes, if you are in business you do need a website!

The eyes of the world are looking in to see out. Looking into a screen to see out into the world to hopefully find your business. Are you there? If you are there, will they like what they see?

When you want to find a business, a product or a service it is highly unlikely you’ll go to any other source than online. Your website is your chance to put your unique selling proposition to your potential clients, people who are looking at your competition anyway. People who are most likely to make a decision on where to go to buy from the sites they find.

Of course, if you are running any sort of digital marketing, and you should be, you need a decent website to capture leads and potential clients.

But what type of website do you need?

So you have a site. Great. But is it mobile responsive? Does it resize to suit the tablet or phone screen it is being viewed on with all the information on the site displayed on the smallest version and all information being completely legible? This is one of the many factors modern day websites rank your website on when it comes to search results. This has been the case since early 2015 so you need to get onto it because your opposition probably already has.

Are the graphics attractive? Does the site get your message across? Are there sufficient calls to action to capture visitors to your site?

Do you have an SSL Certificate on your site? Since mid-2016 the leading browsers have required that all sites have an SSL Certificate. You can tell if a site has an SSL by looking in the address bar and if it has a padlock symbol and the website address begins with HTTPS// then it has one. Chrome, Safari and Firefox have started to display security warnings for sites without an SSL certificate.

Are you getting the support you need from your web developer?

Can you easily edit your site? Do you have friendly, effective support when needed? Does your web developer keep abreast with the latest web development trends and do they keep you informed? This is vital as online changes can affect your web presence.

But there is still a lot more to developing and maintaining a successful website than can be easily described here. Your business is unique, so you need to sit with a web developer to work out exactly what website solution works for you.

What is Cloud Computing?

With the ever changing nature of the technology, it can be a little challenging to keep up. Over the last few years technology has made it possible us to migrate and manage our valuable data, emails and other information through remote servers and data storage services which are managed by professional organisations. This marvellous ability to remotely store your valuable data is referred to as ‘Cloud Computing’. These services are not only extremely safe but reliable and efficient too.

Why you should move to the Cloud?

Besides being incredibly efficient and safe these new services are also cheaper and easier to navigate through. But mainly there are two reasons why you should move to the Cloud:

1. To save your business money
Running office servers for emails and document storage is costly!
  • Office servers need maintenance
  • Office servers need software updates
  • Office servers need hardware updates
2. To increase your data security
Cyber security, data breaches, hacking are now far more important for business since the new data breach laws were introduced on February 22 this year. There is now mandatory reporting for data breaches and hefty fines for noncompliance. Hosting client data on an office server makes it far more vulnerable to breaches. Security benefits of moving to a cloud-based solution:
  • Increased security for data and other sensitive information
  • Added compliance to new Data Breach Laws
  • Services provided through industry leading providers – Microsoft, Amazon, Telstra.

What is Digital Transformation?

Everything from our wardrobe to the city’s infrastructure or the software on our computers needs an upgrade every now and then. The same rule applies to your business processes. Digital transformation is a process that allows you to use technology to automate and/or optimise specific functions (payroll, staff management, stock management, client management etc.) of your business or your entire business.

Why you should consider Digital Transformation Consultancy?

The idea of altering long established practices with an unknown technological solution might seem frightening and cumbersome. You might even have the impression that it would be extremely expensive and will come with a huge learning curve.

What if we tell you that we will come in and offer a free consultancy where we sit down with you and understand your business and offer a tailor made solution.

Increased Efficiency
There are a lot of business processes that are laborious and take a large amount of resources in terms of money, staff and time. Technological advancements can help make a large part of these process entirely automated. They are also capable of providing periodic updates and other information to you.

Long term Cost Benefits
Acquiring a technological solution and implementing it is a one-time cost and is followed by a fairly small maintenance cost. The benefits provided in terms of reduced cost of operations far out-weigh this though when the long term effect is considered.
